Yes, glider chairs are good for a baby nursery. Without a doubt, get one if you're having a baby.
We know firsthand. We didn't have one with our first child. We got one for our second child and we used it a ton, especially my wife.
In fact, our glider was slightly smaller than most furniture which is typically built for men (not intentionally...just sizes are big). My wife loved how our glider actually fit her really well.
We had an old rocking chair for baby number one and while it was a nice gift, gliders are so much easier to rock or move forward and backward. Our came with an ottoman that also glided back and forth in sync with the chair.
The fact is you'll spend time nursing, calming and just sitting with baby. Perhaps many hours trying to get baby to sleep. It's in all these instances where a comfortable glider is worth its weight in gold.
It's so much easier to sway or rock your baby in a glider than in a still chair or even rocking chair. Rocking your body back and forth or side-to-side in a stationary chair isn't fun past 3 minutes. But gliding in a glider is very comfortable for both parent and baby.
Moreover, they're comfortable so there's no reason it can't be used once it's no longer needed for your baby. It can fit well in a casual rec or family room or offer sitting in a bedroom alcove.
As a parent of young kids having recently gone through the baby stage, I can wholeheartedly say a glider chair is worth getting if you're expecting or recently had a baby.
