In fact, vaulted ceilings in a bedroom or any other room is perfect for a pendant light or chandelier because of the additional height.
The big problem with hanging lights of all kinds in rooms with a regular ceiling is the overhead clearance. Exceptions to this include above kitchen islands, peninsulas and dining room table which are 3 very popular places for pendant lights.
However, rooms with vaulted or cathedral ceilings are perfect for hanging lights of all kinds including chandeliers and stylish pendant lights. In fact, it's a great way to fill in some of the space while providing light at the same time.
For master bedrooms, I prefer a single, larger hanging light such as a chandelier. There are so many designs to choose from these days so you aren't stuck with some gaudy monstrosity popular 100 years ago. There are industrial, modern, minimalist, rustic... you name it, there are large, stylish chandeliers of all types.
